Tuesday's Titillating Treasure: Marie Antoinette's Commode
This sweet little commode - made by Jean-Henri Riesener of inlaid woods, bronze, and marble - was designed for Marie Antoinette's private apartments at Marly. One can't help but wonder what the queen stored inside this commode - trinkets, sheet music, love notes from admirers, the stern, admonishing letters written to her from her mother in Austria?
